So, I was lucky enough to be able to spend another week on the Farm this year at Bonnaroo! Having strep throat a week before, an immense lack of sleep and working extra at the salon didn’t stop me from returning to my place of fun and freedom. There was a small part of me that thought about not going this year and selling my tickets…then I thought, WHAT?! Why the heck would I miss out on this?? That was the crazy side of my brain talking… Anyway, my younger sis and I packed up all of our camping gear, spent way too much money on groceries and headed out to Manchester, TN. Traffic was horrible getting in, per usual. But, we actually snagged a decent camping spot. Luckily, my sister and I have an incredible father that raised us with a love of being outdoors and being able to set up our camping equipment like strong independent women and embrace nature without acting like a couple of babies.
Now, this was one freaking hot year. Like, damn, it was too hot. But, we managed to survive with spray fans, tons of water, a cooling towel and yes, we caved and payed a little money for a shower one day and it was the best decision I made all week. Every day going into Centeroo (the main venue area) we would take our CamelBaks to stay hydrated, sunscreen, money for yummy vendor food and a blanket to chill on in the shade while enjoying the music. We also snuck in a couple Redbulls in order to be able to stay alive for the late night shows.
Having fashion-forward outfits was really tricky this year. It was too damn hot for me to wear anything super trendy that I hoped to. Honestly, throwing on a bathing suit every day was your best and most desirable option, but I still tried to throw in a little style into my ‘fits. You can forget about your hair or makeup looking cute, because you’re just going to sweat it out anyway. Also, comfy shoes were a must. I tried to rock some booties one day and quickly changed back into my Sanuk sandals.
The lineup and shows were awesome! Some of my favorites were J Cole, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Lizzo, Andra Day, Adventure Club, Big Grams, Purity Ring, Bryson Tiller, Two Door Cinema Club and I could keep going… I danced my little heart out ’til I couldn’t dance anymore. Madelyn and I decided to bring something creative to ‘Roo this year, so we each bought Morphsuits. Mine was an alien and hers was tie-dyed. Let me tell you, they weren’t overly hot wearing them, but I couldn’t see a dang thing through them. We had fun, high-fived a million people and got pictures with people I couldn’t even see, but I probably wouldn’t do it again… We also ended up meeting some super cool new friends, raged all night and had the time of our lives. I can’t wait to do it all again next year!
